Her graduate degree is in History from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She is a Caldwell County Schools Digital Learning Coach and a NCDPI Rethink Education Facilitator. She's an NC STEM Bridge Alumni, partnered with WCU, that connects teachers across the state to collaborate and utilize Project-Based Learning to solve problems and teach STEM skills. She is currently part of the Teacher-Student Initiative (TSI) through UNC-World View, which partners with UNC-Chapel Hill to bring more global awareness into the classroom. She participated two years in Profession-Based Learning, a Caldwell County Initiative that partnered classrooms with local businesses to solve local company problems to teach workforce skills, funded by an Appalachian Regional Commission Grant. She loves to use interactive teaching practices, including project-based learning, blended learning, and the common instructional framework, that incorporate the portrait of a graduate and twenty-first-century skills. She sponsors Interact, a high school version of Rotary that focuses on service projects, and Art Club, which participates in local galleries. She's a mom of two active children, one in elementary and one in middle school, from archery, soccer, cheerleading, clogging, Scouts, and band. When she is not teaching, she's a competitive clogger with Sims Country Cloggers.
